The people of Long Island are funny looking, they wait on lines a lot, they buy shiny designer clothes, and they like their coupons. They're also beautiful, hard-working, intelligent, and creative. They're rich, they're poor, they love Billy Joel, and they can't get enough Starbucks. Long Island is essentially a cross-section of America- we have our red towns, blue towns, city mice, and country bumpkins. We have an eclectic bunch of people here on the island and it makes things interesting (sometimes too interesting in fact because we are a bit over-crowded).
Regardless of their image Long Islanders are pretty warm hearted and friendly. There's a nice old town homey feel in the small towns that dot the coast and everyone seems to know your name (sometimes they even shout it with a heavy accent).
